SHAKEN/STIR Protocol In A Nutshell
SHAKEN/STIR IN A NUTSHELL
SHAKEN/STIR is a caller ID authentication system for phone calls.
It verifies that the phone number making a call is actually authorized to use that number.
Official GHL guide:
WHAT PROBLEM IT SOLVES
Before SHAKEN/STIR:
Anyone could spoof a phone number
Scammers could pretend to be banks, local businesses, or government agencies
Call answer rates dropped because people stopped trusting caller ID
WHAT IT DOES
When you place a call:
Your carrier attaches a digital certificate to the call.
That certificate confirms the number is legitimate.
The receiving carrier verifies it.
The call is marked as trusted or unverified.
If verified, it improves:
Answer rates
Caller ID reputation
Deliverability
WHAT IT MEANS FOR GHL / REFERRAL SERVICE
For each client Sub-Account:
The phone number must be properly registered
The business must be verified
A2P must be submitted
CNAM must match the legal business name
If SHAKEN/STIR is not configured:
Calls may show “Spam Likely”
Calls may get auto-blocked
Pickup rates drop significantly
SIMPLE WAY TO THINK ABOUT IT
SHAKEN/STIR is:
A digital passport for your phone number.
No passport = suspicious traveler.
Verified passport = trusted business call.
⚠️ For referral outreach where pickup rate matters, this is not optional.
